Chapter VI

Aftercare

Go forth, inked warrior, and bestow thy mark with pride.

Your artist walks you through care for your specific piece before you leave. The short version: keep it clean, keep it lightly moisturized, keep it out of the sun and out of the water, and don't pick.

I

First Day

Leave the bandage on as long as your artist says. Then wash gently with lukewarm water and fragrance-free soap, pat dry with a clean paper towel.

II

First Two Weeks

Wash twice a day. A thin layer of recommended aftercare; thin is the word, the tattoo should breathe. Light flaking is normal. Let it come off on its own.

III

Avoid

Soaking (baths, pools, lakes, hot tubs), direct sun, tight clothing over it, scratching or picking, and anything with fragrance or petroleum on fresh work.
